Credit Counselling Services of Newfoundland and Labrador

Newfoundland & Labrador

Credit Counselling Services of Newfoundland and Labrador is a charity founded in 1982 (incorporated in 1983) overseen by a Volunteer Board of Directors. We are a Family Service Agency providing confidential credit and budget counselling to individuals and families through face-to-face interaction, by telephone, or online requests.

For 35 years we have provided financial counselling and other supportive and practical services to over 26,000 families. Every year we help almost 1,000 families repay their debt, maintain their dignity, privacy and self-respect.

Our primary role is to provide confidential and unbiased counselling services that help individuals and families regain financial independence through ongoing support.

Initial Appointment

We prefer to meet with you in person; however we’ll also talk with you by telephone if this is what works best for your unique situation. For example, you may live a great distance from our office, or unable to travel.

We prefer to meet with you in person; however we’ll also talk with you by telephone if this is what works best for your unique situation. For example, you may live a great distance from our office, or unable to travel.

Our first commitment is guarding your privacy. Your counsellor will discuss this with you in great detail during your initial appointment.

Next it’s about your overall financial position. This includes assessing all your income, your total expenses, as well as a complete listing of your assets and liabilities. Your counsellor will also discuss your debt, including monthly payments and interest rates and timeframes.

Credit Counselling Service

Through our credit counselling service, a credit counselor will spend time helping you discover solutions to your financial concerns.  This means developing a budget to help you learn exactly what’s involved in tracking and controlling spending.

Debt Repayment Program

This is the service our clients find most helpful. You will meet with one of our professionally trained counsellors who will complete a total assessment of all your finances. Based on the outcome, he or she also develops an alternate repayment program for your creditors to consider. Simply put, you deposit to CCSNL monthly and we distribute the funds.
